Workshop is set up!

Finally after something of a hiatus, I have got myself in order and got back to modelling

The last two years have seen a lot of change for me on a personal level. That’s not to say it’s been a bad two yers, far from it. However, it did mean that for a long while I lost my mojo for modelling. At one point, I even contemplated selling up and giving up.

However, that was then, and this is now!

Unsurprisingly for me, I’m doing things slightly backwards. Most people would build a layout first, and then start thinking about items to go on it. Me? The paintbrushes are out.

Advances in 3D Printing

One thing that has come on a long way in the last 2 years is the standard of 3D printing. The levels of detailing being achieved these days are quite impressive.

Some things have not changed though, such as the need to ensure that 3d printed models are cleaned properly prior to painting. Many schools of thought exist on how best to do this. Personally, I have had a quite a lot of success in recent weeks using IPA wipes.

IPA is widely regarded as one of the best methods for cleaning such items up. However, there are numerous ways to obtain and apply. My preferred method after an element of trial and error is the use of pre-packed wipes. They have a wide variety of applications, not just cleaning. Due to their broad appeal they are widely available at very reasonable prices.

Track and Boards

Just because I’m starting with scenics, doesn’t mean I’m not contemplating where they should go. There are a number of baseboards built in the garage when I decide to press the button. How they are configured at this moment in time is anyone’s guess though. Long and straight, shunting puzzle, tail chaser? I quite fancy a roundy roundy with big fiddle yard, but we’ll see

More updates soon, hopefully with some proper modelling not just idle modelling chat
