New Limited Edition Class 03 Shunter From Kernow Model Rail Centre

In the grand scheme of things the show at Alexandra Palace at the weekend was relatively quiet for new announcements. A lot of the major manufacturers had made all their big announcements a few weeks before at the show in Glasgow. However, proudly on show on the Kernow stand was a new limited edition 03 shunter commissioned from Graham Farish.

The 03 has been released in Network South East livery, with a running number of 03179. This particular shunter was one of the last of the class to remain. Seeing out it’s last days shunting it’s way around the Isle of Wight.

Whilst not a model for me and any of the many layouts I have planned, I could not resist having a look. As you would expect for a loco of its size, the model is tiny. However, livery application by the team at Farish is excellent. Equally, no surprises there. The packaging as always, is also good, with it being standard fare for Graham Farish.

Stock is available to buy now direct from Kernow Model Rail Centre. They had plenty on their stand on Saturday, with the website saying stock levels remain good still after the event. Pricing at £129.95 is fairly standard for a new release in 2022.

In summary

In summary, a nice looking model. I’m sure it will also run as well as all other BachFar models.

For those that model the 80s and 90s this is likely to be an important addition to many a layout and collection. Due to limited models released over the years Network South East liveried items always seem to attract a premium on the 2nd hand market.

Hopefully if this does well Kernow and other retails will be tempted to produce more limited edition models in this striking livery. This alongside the class 50 from Dapol in NSE liveries are likely to be some of the most popular modern image releases this year I expect.
